COUNTRY/POP ARTIST ABIGAIL NEILSON CHATS WITH TMI ABOUT HER NEW VALENTINE SINGLE + VIDEO

Interview done by AINSLEY HUTTO

Hey Abigail!! So excited to be chatting with you again! How’ve you been since last we spoke?

I’ve been so great! I’ve been writing songs like crazy and also co-writing with other songwriters. Preparing to release my next single “Space” as also been a big part of my daily routine these past few weeks!

How excited are you about the release of your new single?

I’ve been excited to release this song since I wrote it! I wrote it in early 2019 and recorded it in Nashville this past summer. I got to work with Robbie Artress (producer), Gideon and Gabe Klein (Musicians) again which was so amazing as well as Ellen Angelico (musician). We had so much fun while recording this song and we all left the studio that day feeling so great about the outcome!

What led you to releasing your new single on Valentine’s Day?

I decided to release this one on Valentine’s Day because of the message of the song. “Space” is about the feeling you get when a boy won’t take no for an answer. You want to be nice but at the same time you think to yourself, “I’ve said noso many times, why won’t you leave me alone” and “why should I have to sacrifice my own feelings to shield a boy from feeling rejected?” And since Valentine’s Day is a very popular day for love, I wanted to give people who aren’t looking for love and who aren’t interested in any relationship a song, as well as send out the message that you shouldn’t feel bad about not being interested in someone, and when a boy or anyone won’t take no for an answer you have every single right to say no and be heard and unbothered by it.

What do you hope your supporters will think of the new single?

I hope that they love it and know that it’s oki to say no to people and not feel bad about it. In my own past experience, rejecting people who want to date me has been very difficult and I always have felt bad about saying “no”. And when I was writing this song, I started off with talking about how I don’t want to come across as being mean, but I don’t like the way I’m being treated. Then when I kept writing I looked back at it and thought, “I shouldn’t feel bad about not being interested in someone and I shouldn’t be afraid of what someone else will do if I tell them no.” I hope this gives girls some more confidence when telling people no.

What other release plans do you have for 2020?

I’m planning on releasing some more singles which I am very excited about, but I’m even more excited about releasing my 2nd E.P. this summer! I wrote every single song on there and it’s a very personal project that I’m excited to release into the world. I’ve been holding onto these songs for such a long time and I’m so very excited to release them into the world and to see what people think!

Will there be a music video for your new single? If so, can you spill any details about the new single?

Yes, there will be! It was filmed by Kyle and Taylor Olthoff, as always, and they did such an amazing job. I filmed alongside Alexis Fahlman, Sierra Renee’ Christenson, and Hunter Johnson. Shooting was so much fun! It was a lot different from filming “Without You.” Instead of being so in love with someone, I was doing the exact opposite. But Hunter did such a good job with his part as well as the girls! I felt like I got to show my silly side and got to be more personal with this video. I featured little hints in the video the you might find that are personal items and also more hints about this song. One of them is my stuffed animal “Stitch” and also a Kacey Musgraves record of her album “Golden Hour.” The rest you got to find on your own!

What do you hope your supporters will get from hearing your new music?

I want them to hear this song and gain more confidence in themselves. No one should ever feel bad about saying “no” to someone, and you shouldn’t have to hide you own personal feelings to make anyone else more comfortable or happy, let alone apologize for the way you feel. If you’re uncomfortable with the way someone is treating you, you shouldn’t be afraid to stand up for yourself.

Any last things you’d like to say to your supporters?

I love you all so very much, truly. Thank you for your unconditional love and support with everything I do! I feel so grateful for everyone who listens and shares my music, it really means the world to me. I see everything online and you all make me feel so loved and excited to share my music with you even more! Get ready for what’s coming up, because I got a lot more coming soon!
